Our Vallhunds are enthusiastic ‘Mountaineers’, accompanying us on expeditions in the far North West Highlands of Scotland & the Lake District.
Their woolly undercoats & waterproof top coats mean that they are never cold at altitude, & a dip in mountain streams or lochs soon cools them down in hot weather.
They are agile ‘rock scramblers’, light enough to be lifted onto ledges that are too high to jump onto. As experienced rock climbers we are very safety conscious, so they wear ‘double back’ harnesses with leg loops, securely attached to us via a length of rope, on any rocky ridges.
They have the stamina to accompany us on expeditions of up to 8 hours, & all 3 are Vallhunds with ‘enough’ length of leg to cope well with heather & moorland terrain.
Vallhunds can make very ‘snuggly’ companions at night when ‘wild camping’ in our tents or 'bivvy' bags, when they are a good source of warmth!
Above all they love being outdoors with us in wide open spaces.
They are real ‘companion’ dogs, whether chilling by the tent as we cook supper on the stove, or watching the setting sun disappear over the horizon!
